How to use the Resources

How to use the Resources

1. Before Your Visit

Get students thinking about animals, habitats, and conservation before arriving at the zoo. These introductory activities help build background knowledge, explore vocabulary and spark curiosity.

2. During Your Visit

Take learning into the zoo! These scavenger hunt-style activities encourage participants to explore exhibits, read interpretive signage, and observe animal behaviors to answer questions.

3. After Your Visit

Reflect on what you’ve learned and make connections to conservation. This short activity will help reinforce key messages and encourage continued discussion.

Activity levels

Activity levels

To support different learning levels, activities are available in three versions:

  • Level 1: suggested for Kindergarten to Grade 2
  • Level 2: suggested for Grades 3 to 5
  • Level 3: suggested for Grades 6 to early high school

Each level includes age-appropriate questions and concepts while exploring similar conservation themes.

Providing three activity levels also helps educators support differentiated learning within their group. Teachers can select the version that best matches each student’s abilities, helping ensure all learners are appropriately challenged and engaged. This flexibility creates a more inclusive experience, allowing every participant to explore, learn and connect with conservation concepts in a way that suits their individual needs.
